Ed Sheeran had his privacy dialed all the way up on the breakup — he explicitly said he didn't want to write about it because it would give the other person satisfaction, a sign he was trying to keep his real feelings completely sealed. Benny Blanco found a creative workaround: write a song about not wanting to write the song. That reframe gave Ed permission to lower his privacy setting just enough to let the truth out.
