Brightness is about which side of a situation you're able to see. Michael Ivory initially saw spending the $100 bill as pure loss — the last of his grandmother, gone. After living off what it bought, he saw it differently: the bill had done exactly what his grandmother always did, which was take care of him. The same event looked completely different once he turned up the brightness on what it actually meant.
