Tom Rinks had a deep, genuine sense that he wasn't the surfer, the tequila guy, or the Christian — and putting himself in front of those brands would have created a false alignment between person and product. Staying behind the scenes kept him in sync: his identity matched his role. He was the maker, not the mascot. The work was the expression.
