Screensaver is about what your mind defaults to when nothing is actively happening. Before Max Trucco made his shift, when the busyness of the Manhunt game stopped, his mind defaulted immediately to guilt — the loudest and most repetitive signal took over. After lying in his sister's room and letting his memories wash over him, he found a different default: the good times they'd had together, the image of sun and rain together. He fell into the best sleep of his life, which suggests his resting state had changed.
