Parental Controls
Whether you give yourself the option to choose who you are, instead of just defaulting to how you were raised.
Mary and Marge Martinez and the Mimi Fantasy
Parental Controls were flipped off by Mary and Marge Martinez. The identity that their environment — poverty, border town racism, Mexican heritage in a world that devalued it — had assigned to them was rejected outright. Instead of defaulting to how their world had defined them, they chose who they were going to be. The Mimi persona was essentially a manual override of every external label that had been applied to them.
