Roy Seiders and the Night Ivan Died
Backup is about having systems in place so nothing critical is lost when something fails. Roy Seiders and Ryan Seiders had no backup when Ivan Brown died — all their molds were in one overseas factory with one person running it. The crisis forced them to build what they should have had all along: a second manufacturer, domestic sourcing, and redundancy. After 18 months, Yeti was dual-sourced and far more resilient. The lesson Roy took from it was essentially: you need a backup before you need a backup.
