Language & Region. Ivan McClellan had completely shut off his openness to the culture of his own hometown, assuming Kansas held nothing for him. His coworkers knew nothing about Luther Vandross or Showtime at the Apollo, but Ivan had also closed himself to seeing what his region actually contained. When Charles Perry mentioned black cowboys, Ivan immediately dismissed it, showing how his Language & Region setting had been turned down to his own heritage.
