Maya Molina Schaefer's mind, left idle in the steam and monotony of her morning routine, defaulted to homesickness and doubt — the loudest, most repetitive thing available. The toothbrush interrupting that loop gave her mind a different default to land on. The Beyoncé song became, in that moment, a screensaver that replaced the spiral.
