Anti-Alias

Whether you flatten the world into binaries, or allow for nuance, complexity, and blurry edges.

Jessica Wheeler and the Neighbor from Hell

Medium fit

Anti-Alias is about allowing for nuance rather than flattening someone into a simple category. Jessica Wheeler's easiest move after years of harassment would have been to write Karen off as simply evil and leave it at that. But she did the research — she read the court cases, learned about Karen's brother, understood something about the kind of home Karen grew up in. That didn't change what Karen did, but it introduced nuance where there was only rage before. It made Karen a damaged person instead of just a monster, and that made it possible for Jessica to stop burning all her energy on hatred.
