Neil Ashdown and the Pigeon in Houston

High fit

Force Quit is when a looping thought or emotion keeps repeating and you intentionally stop feeding it. Neil Ashdown had been waiting — for the right words in the hospital, for a meaningful sign after the phone call. The pigeon landed and his brain tried to start the loop: this is the moment, this is the symbol, this is the punctuation. He refused. He told the pigeon out loud that it wasn't going to be the sign, and watched it fly away. That interruption — naming the loop and rejecting it — was a real force quit.
